As a teacher...

I've been teaching private lessons for over 33 years now. Many of my students have been and are considered some of the most talented trombonists in the state of Texas. Over the years, students from my studio have earned high honors through their hard work and dedication.

All my experiences throughout my career have taught me that there are many great ways to teach students. What has enlightened me the most is my experiences as a father who teaches his son trombone. Not many teachers can say that, once the student's lesson is completed, they can hear how the student applies the knowledge they gained from the lesson into their practice sessions. Now I can. Through this experience, I've learned to adapt my practice instructions so that students will have a better chance implementing successful practice habits at home. One of the many perks to being a parent! Lessons must be more than just teaching students to become better players. Students have to learn how to continue improving their musical abilities when practicing on their own.

In addition to private lessons, I've had 4 years of experience teaching at the college level as a Director of Bands and Brass Professor. I also was a head band director for 6 years teaching 6-12 grade bands. In the summer of 2015, I created a summer trombone camp, Mr. B’s Trombone Camp. I've held master classes, clinics and have conducted ensembles throughout the country.
